The Ocean Institute, founded in 1977 as the Orange County Marine Institute, is a community-based 501 (c ) 3 organization that offers in-depth Marine Science, Maritime History and Outdoor Education programs. The facility includes state-of-the-art teaching labs, the Maddie James Seaside Learning Center, two historic tallships, and an oceanographic research vessel.
The San Onofre Parks Foundation, a California non-profit that co-operatively works with the California State Parks to develop, perserve and enhance the recreation and experience of California's unique and beautiful coastal parks.
The Doheny State Beach Interpretive Association (DSBIA) formed in 1982 to promote an appreciation for and an interest in the natural history of Doheny State Beach.
Membership fees, donations and other funds are used to maintain the park’s visitor center that is the home of 5 aquariums and a popular indoor tide pool. These funds also support campfire programs, Junior Ranger programs, and special events like the Grunion Night, as well as enabling the purchase of interpretive books and supplies.
The association proudly supports a docent program for community volunteers who want to become involved in the many park educational and interpretive activities. DSBIA is an official cooperating association with the California State Parks.
